+ Catholic Emancipation in the 19th Century and its effects in Cornwall

Catholic Emancipation occurred when Parliament removed laws which discriminated against Roman Catholics in Britain. These changes ultimately allowed Roman Catholics to practise their religion freely, purchase land, inherit land and hold civil or military offices including a seat in Parliament.

Key Stage 2 pupils will explore the events that led to the decline of Catholicism and consider how the Catholic Emancipation affected the development and growth of Catholic communities across Cornwall.
